Who is Randy Verschueren ?
Thats me! Nice to meet you ! I was born in 1986 in Turnhout, a small city in Belgium, but I’ve been living in Hoogstraten, an even smaller city, my entire live. I’ve been in love with graphics, design, illustration and artwork ever since I can remember. Whenever I got a new toy I wanted to keep the packaging. Messing around with pencil and paper was my favorite pastime.
From the first day we got our first computer I used it for drawing and printing. Using Windows 95 and Paint the first logo’s and digital illustrations where born. And of course, as soon as I’ve seen my first web-site, I started messing around with Microsoft Publisher and Miscrosoft Frontpage. Later on I discovered Corel Photo Paint, Corel Draw, Macromedia Dreamweaver, HTML, CSS, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, ...
It wasn’t until the fourth year in High School (High School is 6-7 years where I come from) that I discovered the perfect education, and I saw a way of elevating my hobby to a possible career. Publicity Graphics and an extra year Publicity Illustration. During those years we had a couple of genius teachers who taught us everything about Design, Illustration, art, typography, ...
It was also during those years that I started to take jobs, freelance projects, etc. Some of those projects included: one of the first Pokémon websites, a PC game that never truly saw the light because of licensing issues, Viesign, a 3D Chatroom, and so on. During the final 2 years of High School we had to do internships. My first half year was not that great, the company that took me in made car decals, and all I got to do was peel those decals, I didn’t even got to apply them. After a few months I switched to a different company. This company was a genuine DTP business, we did all sorts of magazines, books, adds, ... This company also introduced me to Apple and the Mac, and I was SOLD. They offered me a job for the weekends which I gladly took.
After graduating High School I attended Community College at Turnhout. Graphical & Digital Media, Cross media Design.
There I got the chance to hone my skills even further. In the final year we had to take another internship, this time I took a small local web-design firm that allowed me to work from home. Also during this final year, we had to write a thesis. I made one about T-shirts, designing, printing and selling them.
I got my first job the day before graduation at a local web, print & ICT company, PINCoding (check out our site), in august 2010. I’m still working there as all round designer, doing mostly but not limited to websites for local companies, entrepreneurs and enterprise level companies.
